DEPARTMENT HISTORY

The City of Winter Haven Fire Dept. started in 1911 as a volunteer force. This meant that the crews were called to a fire or emergency by the use of a large bell. Over the years, funding became available to start paying the firefighters and purchase new equipment. Today the Dept. has an annual budget of over 3 million dollars and 70 personnel assigned to the operations division, administration, and inspections/investigations.
